The quote was speaking of 'some people in Hollywood', not political opponents.

It's actually qualified well enough that the hyperbole used would be near impossible to refute. But it's outrageous in how useless a statement it is, and how it's applied in such a non-specific manner.

Think of it this way, if you replaced "Hollywood" with any gender, race, ethnicity, sexual persuasion, nationality, or religion, how would it be viewed? It would still be just as impossible to disprove the statement, but there's nothing good that can come out of promoting such a stereotype.

Don't kid yourself. The only reason he targeted them was because of Hollywood's famous (or infamous depending on where you are coming from) liberalism. Considering Mr. Donahue, president of a political action group (Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights), was speaking on a segment entitled "Hollywood Hating America" on MSNBC's Scarborough Country, that point should be fairly obvious.

Neither... I'm one of the sane ones who realized that Kerry flubbed a joke. Now the right wing firebreathers may want to take off with it, but we all know you... *ahem* I mean them.. are a bunch of loonies anyway.

The only idiots here are the ones that thought Kerry actually meant to say soldiers are uneducated. Their bias has blinded them to the truth, as it has many times in the past.
