HP is not the equivalent of LOTR or TH...or Narnia or Prydain. (Reading Silmarian just shows you like punishment.) I was a long HP avoider, but I eventually broke down and read them. They are great fun if you can get by the places where they are not the equivalent of fine fantasy...and that they are for younger audiences. She does have a magical touch for making sort of a faux universe that is analagous to ours (Quiditch for soccer and the Jumping Frog cards and all that.) It's the little touches that are fun to me. HP is a brick also and so are his friends.
