It really depends, there are hot Indian girls and there are ugly Indian girls just like every where else. I for one wouldn't mind banging half the chicks in Bollywood films.

Hm, they must have British heritage. Or are all Indians that fair-skinned?
Let's see how many here can tell the gender of the people in the following photos (I crave in advance the indulgence of the new administration for turning this into a Babe thread ):

I think it depends. Northern Indians tend to be lighter skinned while southern Indians tend to be darker skinned. Also the upper classes tend to be lighter then the lower castes. Lastly, modern society puts a lot of pressure on Indian women (in fact all women) to conform to ideals of beauty so many women are opting for plastic surgury or even skin lightening drugs like Michael Jackson used. With a billion people to choose from though Bollywood is pretty much free to choose what ever actors and actresses they want. Someone out of the billion people in India will conform to their standards no matter how outrageous.
Upper castes are usually fairer-skinned. The most extreme example is the Chitpavan Brahmins of Maharashtra - they don't look Indian, they look white.
Is this a post colonial british heritage thing a modern skin bleaching fad (Michael Jackson ) or the result of some other process?
EDIT: cross posted with Oderin and seems its the later guess in his opinion

You have a lot of different types (ethnicities) of people in the subcontinent. Remember that there were a lot of invasions from the west also.

Interesting, I'm wondering how this came about as you would think that at one point everyone was more homoginous. Given the Indian caste system its concivable that a selective preshure for fair skin could have over the centuries resulted in a significant genetic difference in the different castes.
This also reminds me of another interesting thing I had read. For most societies up untill the industrial revolution fair skin was considered desirable because the lower classes were taned by their work in the fields. Only the upper class stayed in doors enough to become pasty. Cosmetics were typicaly used to lighten the skin. Post industrial revolution the typical person works in a factory and gets little sun, now only thouse with sufficient leashure time get a nice tan particularly on their vacations to equitorial climates and the whole trend is reversed as tanning becomes a status symbol.
