And I'm kind of old fashioned and like to pick up an item in my hand before I buy it. Most of the stuff I bought online is stuff I couldn't find in stores (alpha centauri crossfire and other hard to find games), or I was too embarassed to buy in a store.

actually I'm worried that even if I did it today, I wouldn't get them in time. I keep meaning to do it in early december, but I never get around to it.

You could always be a rebel and give your Christmas gifts in February.

Krap, Xmas is still two weeks away. The present could go by homing tortoise and still get there.

I agree with Dis and others that think it a bit pointless. A little something to unwrap is fun on the day but spending loads of time & money buying each other stuff we might not like/want is basically a waste.

Also, almost everyone I know would like less clutter in their lives, so maybe we should be buying each other rented space in self-storage warehouses to put our crap in from previous years, rather than just new crap to make our lives more cluttered and unhappy.

What I will say in favour of it is that the economy gets a shot-in-the-arm, and we all benefit from that, if we value our livelihoods.

I don't want to make another thread, though I'm tempted.

Has anyone ever gone out and sung christmas carols? Seems strange to me. People would look at me weird if I went down the street singing christmas carols. Or they'd shoot me. One or the other.

I have involved with our church

We went to shut-ins,elderly and widow/widowers homes, sang in their front yard a few songs.

I haven't gone to a pubic venue and started singing, although it wouldnt bother me

VFW gets in the back of a bobtail truck and goes around at Christmas.

Yeah I have seen that here in the Carolinas

Of course growing up in both Aroostook County Maine in 1960's and Washington County Maine in the 1970's we average -minus 30-to-0- degrees with winds and snow so that might not have made it

Gift cards? So giving cash is insincere, it's more thoughtful to give devalued cash that can only be spent at one place? I don't get it.

I generally aim to get small presents that show affection rather than spend huge hunks of money ('course, I don't have huge hunks of money to spend). For example, I'm getting my GF some really fun fabrics (she likes sewing), some real gumbo file to replace the liquid file crap she has to use now, and a big illustrated guide from the Met that I found at the college library's annual book sale.

I was thinking a similar thing the other day that I found funny. what if Metallica did a christmas song?
