Look. Peolosi is on record is on record as of a few months ago defending earmarks. Reid as recently as November 27 of this year. You'll have to fogive me my scepticism.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

OK, I hadn't heard of him before so maybe this is something which might become real. Let's face it even if there are some earmarks in the budget if we can reduce them then it is a good thing.

Doesn't matter. This is partially a matter of House-cleaning. The Republicans are sore losers, so left a pile of budget bills that need to be passed to fund the gov't for FY 2007. So the Dems in retaliation decided to fund the gov't by continuing resolutions (devoid of earmarks). What happens regarding FY 2008 is an open question. As I said, hopefully real earmark reform will be passed.
