I hope this is true, if it is this is great news. The US wastes billions and billions on this pork, when it could be used to pay down the debt or something more usefull then helping out Congress person friends, so that he or she can get reelected next election. But I am going to wait and see.
it was a pretty blatantly misguided attempt by Sloww to blame yet another thing on Clinton

Oh yes, because I don't put any qualifing statements in that or voice scepticism at all?

Hopefully when these earmark-free continuing resolutions expire (in a year), the new Congress will have passed some genuine earmark reform.

Well let's just say statements about no pork spending from people that defend their pork spending make me wonder at how grounded in reality people are when they take such things as anything more than cheap political theater.
PS Why you felt the need to MrFun a post I quoted in its entirity, I'll never know.

It'd make for some pretty bad theater for them to say "there will be no congressional earmarks" in the continuing resolutions, and then go back on it in a few weeks.

I won't believe it at all until there is actually a budget on the table without any pork spending.

It seems the guy from Wisconson is the only one who has claimed there will be no earmarks. I'd like to see someone other then a back bencher make that commitment.
Obey is the incoming Chair of Appropriations (and Byrd's his Senate counterpart). He's about as far from a backbencher as you can get.
