What it says is that to get into the gallery, you almolst have to be male.

What the heck do you mean by "almost have to be male?" First of all, are you talking about the art objects being male, or the people viewing the object?

And that of the nudes painted, almost all of them are of women. Meaning, almost all nudes are of women seen through the male gaze.

Is there any evidence showing that the museum's female nude art objects are viewed mostly by males?

This does not indicate that the female form is aesthetically pleasing to most people, it means that most nudes are painted by chauvenist artists who get their jollies painting nude women...

What? Thinking that the female body is beautiful has nothing to do with getting sexually stimulated by it.

...and that this objectification of women as a sex object or "beauty model" is further reinforced by the fact that less than 5% of the artists represented are female - indicating a belief the women are not cabable of making art, rather, they are only fit to be a subject of the male artist.

A belief? There is greater than zero female artists. Greater than zero female artists make nude female art objects. Ergo, women are indeed capable of making art. Your entire argument is about making generalizations that don't work, and makes assumptions of the male mind which are not necessarily true.

More importantly, whether or not there is sexism in nude art has nothing to do with whether or not said art is indeed pornography. As I said before, beauty is a different quality altogether from lust, sex, etc. Said art objects are not meant to evoke such feelings of lust and the like, but different feelings.

Does the percentage change at MoMa? I bet it does.

We've got a museum of women in the arts here in DC. Got some pretty good stuff. Some dont like this "affirmative action" but its a lot more productive than whining about the Met.

Oh, and a couple of weeks ago I saw the Annie Lebovitz exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. Big crowds (yup, in Brooklyn) A woman artist, feminist messages, and both male and female nudes.

For tax purposes I guess stripping could be art but I wondered if the VAT is applied to door charges for rock concerts, or regular dance bars.

It is specifically refering to the modern art section.

I'm sorry, but the generalizations do work when you relate them to the statistics in the ad (which are actually from the 80s) less than 5 ****ing percent of represented arists being female is more than enough room to make a generalization that the only way for a woman to get into a gallery is as a (naked) model of the male artist.

You don't have to masterbate to something for it to be sexual. Beuaty does have a great deal to do with sexuality. Other examples of pornography are advertising campaigns that flaunt T&A or use sexual anxiety to influence the consumer.

Supposedly to encourage artistic development.

Most developed nations have tax systems with baroque corners where no sane man should enter.

But it seems performing arts are tax excempt is Norway. Rock concerts, theatre plays and stand up shows are included. Granted that I hate Stand up comendy more than what's entirely rational, but I have seen enough bad stand up, theatre and rock concerts that I have trouble imagining stripping to have less artistic value on the whole.

And I'd be queasy about having the tax department judging artistic merit.
