John Bolton
As most of you probably know, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, resigned yesterday. His resignation came after it became clear that his nomination would once again fail to reach the floor of the Senate, where it seemed likely he would have majority support.
Lefties in the US seems pretty psyched about this; the Daily Show crowd gave a rousing cheer when they heard the news, for example. But why are they so excited? By most accounts, Bolton was a pretty effective voice for America's viewpoint at the United Nations, and was making headway on necessary reforms in that institution. The most common criticism of Bolton seems to be that he is brusque or undiplomatic. But even if that's true, does it really matter if he gets results? I just don't understand why the left hates John Bolton so much and why they view his ouster as a good thing for America. It seems to me that Congress should have a good reason for preventing a qualified, capable Presidential nominee from serving. I can't really discern the reason in this case. Anyone care to enlighten me?
