True but if you do a good cash flow analysis as my wife and I did we realized the $200000 (plus loss of 2 years income at another $140000) we ponied up for her MBA from Wharton wasn't really a good investment. Granted she chose not to go into the more lucrative investment banking or consulting routes but even so that a good bit of coin at year 0 dollars that we likely will never recoup even at higher out years wages.

Did it anyway as that was the direction she wanted her career to go. But not because it was the smart money decision.

My student loan will be ~£13,000 by the end of the year (~2.5% interest ). Plus about £1000 overdraft if I decide to have a good time (0% interest ).

Although in the UK student loan is paid off as you earn it, taken directly out of your salary before you see it at a flat rate of £1 for every £9.50 you earn above £15,000 a year. And my overdraft will either be paid off with my £1500 starting bonus or more likely within the first 6 months of wages, as that bonus would pay for a nice laptop, TV or holiday

Wharton costs $100k a year? I thought it was more like $40k a year in fees?

about 350K in debt -- all in my house-- Do I win anything for being the most indebted??

Oh but the house is worth about 700K and at current paydown rates will be paid off in 14 years. My target is actually 10 years since every year when I get a raise, I up my mortgage payment a couple of hundred bucks

                          Opportunity Costs Of Foregone Salary

Sometimes makes for interesting net present value calculations on an MBA. Many other professions have low opportunity costs (such a lawyers). MBAs normally have high opportunity costs, since the schools look for people who have had work experience -- those who have had occasion to build up a nice salary.

My student loans for law school are massive (about $110,000 now) and I have a $1000 in credit card debt (though that'll quickly disappear).

Anyway, I think I need more debt. I only have a mortgage, which I may refinance to a 40-year variety and cash out to 80% of the value of my place.

I had $8,000 in student loans, which I paid off. Looking back on the last few years, I realize that I could have taken on tons more in student loans without breaking a sweat.

I had $20,000 in credit card debt, which I paid off. Credit cards take a long time to pay off, but looking back on it, the credit card debt wasn't troublesome as it related to my overall financial resources.

                              I don't have a car.

Thats the advantage of being an old fart. I got through law school before they started premium pricing it. I graduated with less than 10K debt which even with the most generous estimates of inflation in the last 12 years is still a fraction of what people get saddled with today
