I think my total debt is approx. $70 000 but that includes mortgage, car loan and credit cards.

I am pleased that it hasn't increased in recent years , but I haven't done much to decrease it either .

Yes, I will be reinvesting the proceeds. Mostly, I will be using the debt to gain a truer understanding of my financial health.

Mortgage is it, if I hadn't got engaged last year and moved out of my small condo into a nicer house I would probably have nothing. I am not complaining, the house is much nicer than anything I could have done myself, and it's going to appreciate better than the condo!

My fiancee has some car/student loan debt, but I worked/lived at home/ lived like a monk during university so I got out debt free!

Ditto. My wife saddled me with all our debt.

                      I think it's right around $300,000.

Hmm... no, it's less than that. About $280,000.

Three morgages will do that to ya.

I have no debt, although I intend to be buying a house for the first time in the next few months, and houses in the southeast of England are oh-so-cheap.....

Never went to college. That should be obvious. . Actually, I'm willing to bet I'm smarter than most people with a degree. Most people quit learning after leaving college, while I continue learning. I have a thirst for knowledge. I use the internet more for learning than for porn (actually I don't use the internet for porn at all anymore).

That, and a lack of a girlfriend/wife all my life has kept my debt pretty low.

Only kidding. I knew guys who couldn't get girlfriends who were flat broke. it's really all in the lifestyle and financial discipline. Some people spend money like there is no tomorrow.

how exactly can you do that?

Makes no sense to me. I hate being in debt. Perhaps because I'm always a worrier.

So now my house and car are about to be paid off, I'm not sure what to do with my money. Should I buy another house or put more money into mutual funds?

I currently have over $6000 in mutual funds (I originally put in $6000 exactly, I think it's worth close to $7000 now), Over $6000 in roth IRA's, and around $5000 in a regular IRA (rolled over from my old 401K), plus I have another retirement fund with around $5000 in it.

Anyone have any recommendations on what to do with my paycheck? And sending it to you guys is not an option. .

The thing about buying a new house is I'm lazy, and hate keeping up with chores such as painting. . But I think it's worth it as the housing market has eased back. But I still don't think it's done correcting itself. Prices may come down further. As it is, many people in Las Vegas can't afford to buy a house because they cost so much now.
