  • He's actually a really nice guy. He seems very sincere. I don't like the fact that he's focused so heavily on the environment, but he certainly goes a lot farther to making me think about voting Liberal than Ignatieff would have.

I think Ignatieff's a dangerous man and should be kept as far from power as possible.

I'm going to have to take a serious look at Dion before the next general. My vote has to go somewhere, and unless the NDP un****s itself on Afghanistan it's not going to them.

I don't know how tainted Dion is from being part of the grit machine for so long.

But in general, I feel as though we've seen a long-overdue improvement in the quality of the party leaders over the last few years.

Not so long though. Wasn't he brought in by Chretein as a storm trooper for federalism in Quebec in the mid 90's?

I have to agree. Rae would have been a disaster IMO. Ignatieff? Where was he all these years? Both smell of opportunism and either one would have been too easy for the other parties to hang tails on, aside from being a little late to the dance.

I think the Liberals made a good choice from what was on offer.

I'm quite happy with Harper, Dion, and Layton.

I'm just really curious why Dion would be bad for the Liberals in Quebec, assuming the Liberals have never courted the seperatist vote.

Yeah, but 10 years is long enough.

Do you know the term "soft nationalist"?

They're the ones who don't really know if they want Quebec to leave or not. Sometimes they vote Bloq. Sometimes they vote Liberal. Sometimes they vote Tory.

I'm not sure Dion is so bad for the grits in Quebec. But I would guess that his take-no-prisoners approach to federalism is probably what people are speculating about. The Clarity Act, for instance.

Of course, his methods are a net plus in my book. But I'm just a maudit Anglais.

          • Maybe it's time seperatism gets the stick. The Liberals and Tories have been *****-footing around the topic for a very long time.

To say that the Liberals shouldn't have a Quebecois leader because he's too harsh on seperatism in Quebec struck me as the height of ass-kissing, ****-eating, 'we'll do whatever you want so long as you don't do anything' propitiation... to me.

            **** 'em. Let's move on.

If they really want to go, go, or STFU.

            • Globe And Mail:

60% of Quebeckers are approving Dion being elected as the chief of Liberal party..
              30% disapproving
              (10%...????)
Like KH said, most Quebecker's are mainly soft-nationalism and don't care so much about separation.

              • "I am the leader of the Liberal party 100 per cent. You are either not the leader or you are the leader. There's no in-between," Dion, 51, said.

Great, another Chretien for people to make fun of when he talks.

                • A stunningly bad choice if the Libs hoped to win the next election. Dion inspires no one.

Big winner - Stephen Harper. He will now get his second minority government.

                  • Funny, because Dion might have won at least oe vote here: mine.

I've never voted Liberal before, but I might do so next time.

                      • Ignatieff may have been more inspiring, but he also has greater weaknesses (too American, too much of a philosopher king, etc.).

Kennedy could be inspiring, but again, way too many weaknesses.

Rae would have no chance of election.

I think Dion has few weaknesses and, despite his lack of superstar charisma, could be able to inspire people with his message, especially from an environment standpoint.

                          Any takers?
