Lebanon began brewing since Syria helped the PLO establish its base there in 1970 (after kicked out by King Hussein of Jordan). Syria has been very active in "aiding", especially when it occupied Lebanon in 1975. Years before Israel set foot there.

Since there was no such country as Palestine, Israel does not occupy it.

It occupies territories which are disputed by a national movement, and claimed for their homeland. In practice - no such homeland ever existed.

(Not that I think it matters in the future settlement. I agree palestinians exist and have aspirations. This however does not mean that everything they say is correct. There never really was a palestinian movement prior to 1948 or dominantly 1967).

Israel did used to occupy parts of egypt which it gave up for peace, and it did used to occupt parts of Lebanon, which it gave up, hoping to have a peaceful border. We know how that turned out though

Honestly, H, if this is the "kind" of political criticism of Israel that exists in Europe today, which Europeans claim is not anti-Semitism, then nothing has changed from the Europe of the last 1000 years. There is no new Europe. It is the same as it always was. WWII changed nothing.

Deary, I've been in this city... a couple of times.
It was an armed revolt against the state, and according to syrian version at least, it was lead by dangerous fundamentalists (allegedly they were killing women who didn't wear a scarf, f.e.). I'm not saying all of that is necessarily true, and definitely destroying the Old Town and killing such a lot can be seen as overreaction, but it's like with Hiroshima bomb... at least there's been relative peace from now on.

Because, thanks to Israel mostly (though not only), it wasn't allowed to exist. These territories do not belong to Israel. As well as Golan, Sinai, southern Lebanon, Shebaa do not. Yet Israel, breaking international law and UN resolutions used to occupy / continues to occupy them and
fill with its settlers. It's a good strategy, the way that - in even more brutal and almost genocidial way - Rome carried out in its early days during the conquest of Italy.

That is simply not true
And if there was no Palestinian movement prior to 1948, why do the Israelis complain about the mufti of Jerusalem in the wartime period? Why were there not one, but actually two palestinian armies fighting Jews in this day?
Anyway, it's not a reason not to give them a state.
Byelorus didn't have ANY (almost) national movement, and, well, it still hasn't got anything like this on a larger scale.
Probably because the gentry was polish, and the citizens of cities either jewish or polish... yet, they were given a state, and while Smolensk remained in Russia, and some halfly - byelorussian areas in Podlasie region in Poland, they got almost all they could and more.
Palestinians may have had weak self-understanding in 1948, but I doubt Jordanians, Kuwaytians, UAEans etc had bigger. This does not mean anyone was justified in coming and taking their land.

Polish children of aryan look were taken. Intelligentsia etc was exterminated. The question is if rest would've followed. Taking into account that Frank referred to Cracow or Warsaw as german achitectural monuments, and that the General Gubern was part of Greater Germany and prepared for german colonisation (Zamosc region was attempted to be cleared of polish population and filled with german settlers), I guess Poles, together with Czechs, though were not per se bound for extermination, de facto they were to cease to exist, but the process was different and more time-taking.
