    Likely, Linux gets more unstable the higher the numbers get.

    2.4.x were the last stable ones.

        If I were targeting Fortran in my dissertation (like so many have done before me), then I'd already be finished with it.

        "We're targeting a run-of-the-mill programming language. Except it doesn't support recursion. Or aliasing. Or dynamic dispatch. And we're assuming that the code isn't very branchy. Oh hell, let's just admit up front that we're targeting Fortran 77 programs." How do people get away with this crap, and why wasn't I born sooner so that I could get away with this crap too?
