    No, because the last thing you want to do is rip off your best customers (the early adopters). It screws you later.

    Sony doesn't care about this either, BTW. Look at Japan where they refuse to set a maximum price for their 60GB PS3. They're letting stores gouge consumers.

      It's going to be fun in a few years when laurentius finally comes to grips with the fact the PS3 becomes the #3 console in the Console Wars after Microsoft and Nintendo pass it.

        You don't need to buy the HD-DVD drive. That's the point, it's optional. If you do, it equates to the same price as the PS3 so you don't need to pay for it.

        Meanwhile, it comes with high-definition cables...while Sony gouges consumers for them. What's more? It doesn't use standard HDMI/component cables...you need to buy the PS3-specific cables, from Sony of course, for more money...

        Also, the Xbox 360's HD-DVD player is a much better solution...it comes with both a movie and a full-size universal remote (with backlit buttons). The PS3 comes with no remote, you gotta awkwardly use a PS3 controller...but wait, you can pay extra for a real remote! See a trend?

                    And in Spring 07 a new cheaper revision will come out. The chips will be produced on smaller, cooler, and cheaper 65nm processes instead of 90nm.

                    This is likely going to be accompanied by a slight redesign/re-spec. I predict all consoles will come with a HD...an 80GB one on the premium and a 20GB one on the core.

                          It's what I use for my HDTV, the VGA connector.

                          Maximum resolution is 1920x1080 in VGA mode.

                          (BTW, Sony has also stated they will not provide VGA output).

                              That's also why I suspect they refuse to upconvert to 1080i properly...it screws lots of HDTV owners. I guess that's why they bundle those Bravia brochures with the PS3.
