Does anyone know an usage of this word beyond the one described?

      This thread is highly approved.

My pet peeve: people who create false words, then spout them with an air of superiority. A classic example is using "ize" to invent a verb (like "prioritize'). Entire MBA programs are built around such bluster and false professionalism.

NOTE: I'm not against the idea of a growing, evolving language. I just think that it should be driven by an actual need to communicate effectively. What I object to is self-important blowhards who substitute linguistic shortcuts for correct usage.

I believe the english langauge needs the word

          "distantiate"

As in, Disney has distantiated itself from Mel Gibso after his anti-semitic remarks

Agreed. The forced change of a word's actual part of speech is similarly obnoxious.

People who use "fictitious" instead of "fictional" (yes, I am mocking Michael Moore).

People using "whenever", when they should be using "when".

                        For example,

People using "whenever", whenever they should be using "when".

Similar to the sound in "Ibiza" or "Galicia" or "corazon" (the Spanish, not the Mexican, pronunciation).
