You're all worthless slackers - especially the lefties...
You must be thinking of the elder President Bush--he was a Navy pilot.
His point stands, I know hundreds of freinds and classmates in the military through all the services and not one has been killed in Iraq/Afghanistan, three have died in flight school (2 Airforce, 1 Navy).
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.
in case you haven't noticed, bashing oerdin for his "partisanship" or the way he posts threads with undesirable facts about republican corruption has become the new hip thing to do. if he would've posted a new thread, he would've been flamed to dead without intervention from staff.
HEY WAIT A SECOND THE MEDIA HAS ALREADY COVERED THIS SCANDAL BEFORE THAT MEANS THAT LOL OERDIN SELF-PWNED LOL
Speaking for myself here, I find Oerdin's hackery annoying mostly for its revolting smugness and over-the-top attitude. "Bush is a moron, and to prove it here are some nasty remarks from The Village Voice! I am contributing to Apolyton in a very meaningful way!"
Just bringing up Bush's stupidity/other foibles in a calm and affable way is enough. Though on this occasion I don't find much funny or interesting. If you have to damn this idiot by invoking his behavior from more than a decade before I was born, rather than his current activities...pshht. I didn't care what Kerry did in his Swift Boat days, I don't care what Bush did in his National Guard copout. If it comes to that, Clinton was probably stoned out of his mind for most of those years, and it doesn't affect my estimation of him.

AAA and SAM defenses over NVN were a little more active. Anyone want to compare how often GWB actually flew as a weekend warrior compared with the pace of flight operations for a pilot on active duty flying combat missions at a comparable period in 'Nam?
Or maybe a comparison of how many CONUS based guard pilots were killed or injured in flight accidents (as a function of flying hours, total flights, or however you want to slice it?), compared to how many active duty pilots were killed, injured or captured/missing as a function of the same factor you use to evaluate the guard pilots?
Any of which beats the hell out of the prospects for a nugget leading a rifle platoon in the boonies, which was the most common destination for officers.

He didn't dodge the draft. He served in the Guard.
Lots of people wanted to get into the guard. Funny, the average guy trying to get into a unit already well over 100% of authorized strength wouldn't have a chance in hell.
He volunteered to activate when they asked for pilots in VN but was not chosen.
Given the timing and stage of the war, wonder what being qualified only in an aircraft type not in use at all in 'Nam might have had to do with that?
Later on, (war was almost over and forces were being drawn down) he blew off some drills (at a crappy classroom based unit). Big deal. I've done the same.
Whether he showed up for guard drills at all doesn't bother me. It's the whole concept of how a politically connected golden boy finds his way direct to a rather cushy billet in the guard, when everyone and his brother wanted to do so, as opposed to finding his way to Benning or Quantico.

My uncle, FF Palmer (Navy Cross Winner) flew over 500 missions in VN and was a CAG there, flying all aircraft in the wing (F4, A4, A1D, etc.). He had close calls twice with SAMs. He still said that landing on a carrier at night was more scary then a combat mission.
1. There was no waiting list for people to go into the type of billet that he entered.
2. The request was specifically for his aircraft type and 4 of his unit did deploy and fly combat missions there. The unit had more volunteers then were needed and the military took the ones who were most experienced. Not surprising based on my experience. Nor is it surprising that people wanted to go. Pilots like that ****.
3. I SAY AGAIN "1."

Somehow, this thread makes me smile.
Shame on you, mr Bush, shame on you...
Oh man, I'd forgotten about that. I wish I'd gotten to see that little tirade (there's not much point in my looking it up on YouTube or anything--my PC lacks sound). It's a lot harder for me to hate Dubya now that I know that doing so will mean I have something in common with that ranting bozo.
Michael Moore, when accepting an Oscar (I think it was for Best Documentary, F 9/11). He'd been explicitly told that the Academy didn't want any political posturing, that everybody wanted a normal night of Hollywood escapism instead of a diatribe like they'd been enduring for months. So of course he got up on stage with a whole gang of other documentary makers and said something to the effect of: "We are people who are proud to represent truth. We are angry that our fictitious president is waging a fictitious war. Blah blah blah. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you." He said those last lines just before/as some ushers or attendants dragged his chubby corpus offstage. Idjit.
EDIT: No, it looks like there was just some joking by Steve Martin afterwards, according to Wikipedia. Pity. And it was Bowling for Columbine, not F9/11.
"Whoa. On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction."
We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition [sic] of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts, we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much."
YYEAHHH!!! The liberals are taking over the country and nobody likes it! The liberals are liars, especially Michael Moore. Moore is just FAT, he has no friends. When he gave the speech at the academy awards, I was appauled. That man is a very bad man. Along with all the left wing hippie fags in this country. All they care about is smoking pot, driving hybrid cars, and actually treating immigrants like human beings. FAGS!! All these liberals come in here to stain our great presidents name. They just complain complain complain. We are winning the war in Iraq so just shut your traps! Bush will continue to lead us into victory, towards a free-er world where all countries will be democratic...imagine. These liberals just talk about how bad the war is and how our president should leave. Well if you don't like it here, then get the hell out!!! I, for one, believe in freedom. THe liberals don't, they actually like terrorism. They believe that terrorists should just run the globe without getting punished for it. So please everyone, realize my words before its too late. We can't give up this country to tree hugging liberal fags!!
