    External HD.

Buy a cheap PATA drive and a cheap enclosure.

If it's not important, why would it be saved?

Hard to resist an obvious comment

The first part though, was seriously meant. This and some multiwrite CD/DVD will reduce your need of media and time.

The electronic solutions mentioned is too risky unless you have some level of RAID, and then it isn't cheap any longer.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

The cheapest way is to memorize all the porn in your brain, so you can just fantasize later on. Costs nothing.

A 400GB PATA hard drive and a cheap external enclosure won't set you back more than $150 (probably less). Or, you could buy a 3rd hard drive to go with the two already in your computer, put them in RAID 5, and have redundancy as well as increased performance
You can get ~500GB of DVD's for $25. There's just no competition. Especially since each of his backups is apparently about DVD-sized.

USB sticks are a waste for backup of large amounts of data. For ~5 GB, just buy two rewritable DVD disks. As a DVD is about 4.7 GB, that will serve you well until you hit some 9.4 GB of data to backup. Rewritable DVD disks are a bit expensive, but that's only relatively speaking. What do they cost, 2$? 2.5$?

External hard drives are great if you have a larger amount of data, though.

Anyway, what do you people do to have so much data? I find that I can fit all of my critical data on one DVD disk - I have many more gigabytes of other data, but don't really need to backup it because I can redownload or otherwise reacquire it.

It's my own gfx library if you will. And it's not purely for hobby anymore (as it was earlier, when I just modded some game stuff here and there for fun).

Judging from the anwers, I guess I'll look around for a good DVD solution

I guess. But time is money, and DVD burning takes much longer

I have ~150GB of music, meticulously sorted, tagged, organised into playlists, etc. It would suck so hard if I lost it.

Maybe if you organise it. I can't be arsed to. Then again, I don't have nearly 150 GB.

Organization... I really should get the tags on my MP3s right someday. So that all those fancy media players would actually become useful.

You don't have to do anything whle the DVD burns. And if you're backing up less than 9.4 GB, all you have to do is swap 1 DVD out.
