I don't dismiss the effect and influence that "great men" can have on history. But history is still made by ordinary people. It's clear that Arafat was a galvanizing force for the Palestinian people in the way that no one had been before and no one yet has been.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Really. You're one of my favourite people on this forum.

              But you're clueless.
Seriously, its a shame seeing a great mind, usually capable of critical thinking, go to waste.

You haven't got a clue about middle east politics and you never will, as long as you live in your dream world, dictated by commie literature and two cent "post-colonialist" bullsh*t analysis.

how many divisions did arafat bring to forcibly stop the Israelis from doing the above?

I used to think that if it weren't for Arafat the Palestinians could've been building roads and schools and hospitals in the West Bank and getting themselves a life instead of throwing their lives away. But seeing Islamism spread like fire through dry tinder I realize it was naive to think so. The majority really do want war more than peace, thinking that somehow Israel will get the worse of it rather than themselves.

I like the Asimov "Pychohistory" aproatch, individuals are untimatly trivial to the vast spans of time and socio-economic factors which truly determin history, even whole empires are ultimatly blips on the radar.

As for Arafat, though it would seem inconcivable before his death the Palistinians now actualy have an even worse leadership. Amazing

The Palestinians remember him, apparently. He's still a national hero there.

Islamism was the alternative to Arafat's socialist-nationalist politics. Islamism is the result of the failure of people like Arafat to succeed in the independence struggle with the Israelis. Israel succeeded in marginalizing him, to everyone's detriment.

except that later on he had individuals throwing the plan/restoring it . and this on a galactic scale, on a regional level individual persons can be quite influential.

Yes, but those are the idiots who think the Jews all stayed home on 9/11 and the CIA flew the planes into the buildings.
