another woman is protesting. She isn't sueing... yet. But she wants the attorney general to investigate.

some people just have no sense of humour. Then again, how would I feel if this happen to me, or my family? I'm not sure.

I don't really care about this movie. Actually I was not in aware that Russian culture ministry has power to ban movies. It's news to me.
Besides, I suspect that this movie could make a zero profit in Russia.
And if this movie really humiliates different ethnic groups and religions it should be banned, no doubt (in full accordance with our law, btw).

But there's a problem that in theory you can't be the judges of that (humiliating stuff). The dude in the ministery decided that.

And it's a comedy. Sometimes people are exposed to stuff they don't like, or stuff that exposes them to be ... well racist, in the tight grip of PC police or what ever, that is entertainment.

And this really is not about Kazakhstan. This is about the reactions of people Borat meets. As in, how far they go to being polite even though he acts like an ass etc. The joke is not on the big K. A big joke is on everyone when Borat goes and tells these insane stories about his country, that can't be true.. but some people still believe them.

Kazahkstan is making ass out of themselves by dealing with Sasha as they now are. They should thank him for all the free PR, now they can promote their country and what it really is, and there's lots of people interested seeing that now. Anyoen who is not stupid understands Borat tells lies, it's a comedy. IF someone can't udnerstand it, it doesn't really matter their opinion now is screwed up about the country, because they are too stupid to begin with.

Once again, I don't think the ministery has power to ban movies. A couple of years ago Ukranians shot an anti-Russian movie. In that movie Peter the Great was portrayed as a gay who rapes his soldiers on regular basis. The movie was full of alike cute scenes. How do like an episode where a women masturbates using a cut-off head of her husband? The main idea of that movie was - Russians are motherf*ckers, while Ukranians are uber-nation which almost won the Northern war for Sweden. In short - the movie was a pile of stupid and blatant lie, an idiotic propaganda of Ukranian nationalists.
The Russian culture ministery RECOMMENDED to do not show that piece of sh!t, but they could not ban it.

Had he played a Finnish dude, instead of Kazakh dude your reaction was the same? Would you thank him for such PR of Finland?

Serb, you should be the happiest person about the movie, I understand that it largely makes fun of Americans .

The Russian culture ministry makes recommendations about what films theaters should show? How interesting. Does the culture ministry also hand out grants of any kind to theaters, do they have other reasons to keep the culture ministry happy?

                    Very interesting indeed.

Why? It'd still be a crappy movie.

I thought it was funny. In fact, I find myself agreeing with Che ( ) that it's the woman who lost her job's own damn fault(as I haven't read anything about her suggesting that Cohen used a "False" name instead of Borat) for not, you know, taking 20secs to type "Borat" into Google.

Er, why the hell would an obscure Kazakh journalist have a web presence? And why would she investigate someone's bonafides using the midden of factual errors we know as teh internets? It would have been easy to do, yes, but she had no reason to think, "maybe this guy is really a shock comic I've never heard of who went to the bother of staging an elaborate hoax to get on our obscure news show, and once he gets on-camera he'll stop acting like a reasonable person and start a twenty-first century blackface act." I suppose she theoretically could have guessed that, but then she might also have guessed that he was a vampire in disguise and taken twenty seconds to find a mirror and see if he had a reflection.
