She wasn't raped by the man whose car she was in ( afriend).

The rapists came from another car, and assaulted her and the driver.

She and the male friend got lashed because they were together alone in a car despite being unmarried. This punishment has nothing to do with the rape itself, it just shows how ****ing medieval Saudi Arabia is.
