              People haven't caused the problem. The dwindling fish stocks are caused by seals and whales! If we exterminate the seals and whales then we'll have more fish to catch before we exterminate the fish stocks.

                We also managed to fish the North Sea dry (ask the Belgian and French former fishermen).

                            Fish are just becoming more intelligent and staying away from fishermen more successfully, having tried tasting poorly and failed it was their only recourse.

                              Cod was available elsewhere. Cod was overfished on the Grand Banks. It continued to be competitive to harvest fish from the Grand Banks even as the stocks there fell, meaning that the costs were not driven too severely by the level of fish stocks. If they had been then cod from other regions would have taken over the market.
