We have the phrase "pick on somebody your own size" when it comes to punching/fighting. You won't hear of a comparable "moral code" in cases of rape or murder. And there's a reason for that. You don't murder, you don't rape, period. If you must turn to violence, you should preferably do so to someone with a decent chance of fighting back, otherwise people will view it as a much greater transgression of normative behavior, i.e. sicker. Murder, rape, not so. Those are sick actions no matter how you go about it.

Saying that one kind of assault is worse is the same as saying that another kind of assault is more exceptable. It's not.

I'm not sure I see an answer to my question in there. A 'yes' or 'no' would do.

You gave a non-answer. Twice now.

And you've given two non-respsonses now to my "non-answer" now.

Seems like a pretty clear exchange to me.

But I will extrapolate on it. (that is, expand my argument rather than reduce it to a yes or no for your conveniance)

Assault is Assault, and there are no worse kinds of assault (except in speaking of the severity of it). Assaulting a black man is not worse than Assaulting a white man.

Assaulting someone because they are black still is not a worse form of assault, however it is not simply assault but discrimination aswell - that is to say, it's not a singular offense. A "hate crime" is a matter of discrimination, not assault.

In which case discrimination laws would apply, ergo no need for hate crime laws at all?

That doesn't work as a counterexample.

                          Why?

As there are different degrees of crimes in general, there can be different degrees of assault.

If condemning one thing more than another is equivalent to calling the other "exceptable [sic]" then all crimes should be condemned equally.

Technically, he said MORE exceptable, which doesn't necessarily imply that either is exceptable as such. For example, "rotten eggs are more pleasant than skunk musk."

Aye I see your point, just think that the word crime encompasses things of varying natures (i.e. variations between drug taking and an aggravated robbery) which can't be directly compared to something that only encompasses one nature, violent attack.

Though if I remember correctly isn't General Ludd a pacifist so all violence would be abhorrent to him and you'll are wasting your time probably anyways.
