    Depends what you look for...

If you want more copyprotection and worse videoquality, than Bluray is indeed better.

If you want it cheaper with better quality and less copyprotection, HD-DVD is better...

It's the only game that stands a chance of selling decently.

SSB is one of those games for immature college kiddies to play together, then let their GCNs/Wiis collect dust.

          • Actually that's far more true of the Xbox and Halo...

            • It's not like there was anything else you could do with the Xbox. Once Halo started getting old, the Xbox got a bit dusty...

              • True dat. I played games on my Xbox after Halo got old, but they were all third-party titles I could have played on the PS2 if I had one.

So you missed out on Ninja Gaiden? And you call yourself a gamer.

KOTOR1/2 were decent, but I only played them on the PC.

If that's the case why were Xbox game sales way higher than Gamecube sales?

The Gamecube had by far the lowest software sales of all the consoles last generation, even when taken per-console.

                      • Does the X360 have (or will it ever have) a comparable "party fighter," like SSB or Power Stone? Or a mindlessly fun racer like Mario Kart? Not everyone wants to MP over the net, challenging moron paintsniffing teens they don't know to deathmatches in whatever FPS is popular at the moment. It's good to have a game where you can just hang around in the same room, drinking and talking smack as you play. You can also do that with sports games, normal racing games (though they lack the "bastard! I'll get you for that!" appeal of games where you can chuck a turtleshell at someone in the middle of a difficult jump), and...not much else that I can think of. FPS games are better played online due to the annoyance of split screens. And online play can be done on a PC (and probably done better).

                        • Very much disagree about multiplayer done better on the PC. I've seen nothing on the PC come close to being in the same league as on Xbox Live.

I very much understand the appeal of being in the same room as somebody as you play, but that's not nearly as important as it used to be on systems like the 360 where all multiplayer games have voice support. You can still shout "bastard! I'll get you for that!" at your friend. With more games supporting the Vision camera, it can show the video of your friends when they talk in a Picture in Picture display, etc as well.

It's impossible to know what games will have over the lifetime of the console, but this looks like it's the same genre: http://www.smallarmsgame.com/

It's also bound to be a lot cheaper than SSBM, since it's a downloadable game.

And I know this will end up as the typical Nintendo response of: "But it's NO MARIO! I don't see Pikachu anywhere in these shots! The game will suck NINTENDO FTW!!!"

                          • That said, it looks like the Wii games are more comparable (and compete with) the Xbox Live Arcade games over the Xbox 360 games. XBLA games are cheap, simple, and basic...basically what Nintendo wants?

                              • Small Arms looks like an example of the genre, yes. I'm not buying this crap about voice links and picture-in-picture though. I can't imagine that substituting for physical proximity. At least, not among casual gamers. By "casual gamers," I mean the sort who say, "that looks fun, I think I'll play it," as opposed to talking about polygon count and texture shading and crap. The kind of people who play SSB, and buy the Wii, in other words. Really, who the hell wants to play Mario Kart drinking games over LAN?

I don't especially care about the Nintendo characters as such (except that the game gets bonus points for letting you play as Peach pimp-smacking Mario into the stratosphere--Mario blows). The percentage system is what makes it stand out more for me.
