I'm going to end up with all three consoles again (likely a Wii as a Christmas gift from the SO), but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging which is the superior outing this time around.

From a technical standpoint as well as a business standpoint.

Hell, the 360 is outperforming the PS3 games and is already in the black for a lot lower price than the PS3. Sony loses several hundred dollars for every $600 PS3 sold for less in terms of game capabilites -- makes me scratch my head. It must be all of Sony's elegant engineering...

    • MS has started a massive advertising campaign in Europe for the 360.

      Microsoft Takes Over Metro
Free London paper swamped with Xbox 360 ads.
      by Alex Simmons, IGN UK
UK, November 17, 2006 - Emergence Day has well and truly hit London, with adverts and promotions for Gears of War almost consuming the capital's free newspaper Metro. The paper, which is distributed in tube and train stations all over the city, has Xbox 360 featured on an incredible 48 pages out of a total of 64, from ads for Gears of War, Viva Pinata and Call of Duty 3, a page promoting the HD-DVD drive and our personal favourite, a centre-spread pullout 2007 calendar starring the scantily clad girls of Dead of Alive Xtreme 2. Even the small ads have been 'Geared', the bloody GoW stamp seeping through the pages.

Metro papers in Finland, France, and other Euro countries had the exact same things.

      • Hi everyone,

        I'm a Sony fanboi.

I won't be getting a PS3 anytime soon though until the bugs have been worked out and there is a bigger library of games that I actually like.

        • That is what I said, and did, for the PS2. And I never regreted it one bit, PS2 was a good consol, and when I look at the games released, I am glad I got that one (GameCube and Xbox each only had a couple of games I would be intereseted in).

Reading the review, made me want to try a Wii. I don't want to buy one, but I'm really curious to try it! I was skeptics about it, but reading the review lead me to believe that maybe Nintendo is on the right track!

And I'm curious to see what will be the grand public reaction about the Wii!

Prior to this review, we asked some of the girls who work in our advertising department to stop by our demo room and play both Wii Sports bowling and tennis. They don't play games and had only a very limited understanding of Nintendo's new console. We armed them with Wii remotes and very briefly explained the basic controls. Within seconds, they were competently going back and forth on the tennis court and knocking down pins in bowling - and they were having a great time playing. In fact, just about everybody we've introduced to the sports compilation has walked away happy, whether they have been a gamer for years or completely new to the activity. It's clear to us that Nintendo is onto something and sure enough, Wii Sports might even truly capture some of those non-gamers.

            Wii has a new slogan.

Wii, so easy, girls can play it!

Being right doesn't make you not a fanboi. You're a fanboi because every thread I see you post about tech is "MS rules Sony/Apple sucks". One can believe these things without being a fanboi; but constantly bringing it up, reveling in the anti-MS failures, ignoring or deriding the 'benefits' of other options, and stating that there can be no opinion other than the superiority of X360/MS are all symptoms of fanboiitis.

I for example like iPods, but I'm not going around telling people how iPods are the best thing ever ... However, I am a bit of a Civ fanboi. Just a bit, though.

                  • I hope the Wii will be successful with the 'active sports games' ... that's the one reason I'd consider getting a console, for something wacky like that. I definitely like the idea of playing tennis with my controller (well, i'd rather go outside and play, but there aren't any tennis courts nearby)

                    • Really? I see Tennis courts everywhere. In fact, they are the most common outdoor sports thing.. even more so than soccer fields or basketball courts (or baseball courts).

This really surprised me, as I don't know anyone who plays regularly. I know that the tennis courts near my current apartment (and my previous house) saw almost no use (I have never seen anyone at them at my current apartment).

                      • I suck at tennis; when I play I spend far more time running after the ball than actually playing. Now, you lose the running part with the Wii but you spend more time actually playing.

                        • Does anyone else think that the PS3 commercials are awful? It's seems that Sony doesn't know that the '80s are over.

                          • No, they're generally considered to be awful commercials. Word has it the ad company doing it is embarrassed by them.

On the other hand...the Gears of War ad is awesome.

                            • At least the TV ads for Gears of War are A+. They've been playing a lot on sporting events, etc. I think I was successfully brainwashed.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

TBWA\Chiat\Day is the agency of record for them; they're known for quirky ads in the first place. I don't know if they're embarassed, but they're certainly trying to hearken back to their original PlayStation campaign with this one.

Admittedly, I remain unmoved, because somebody other than Sony should be handling their PR--and for me, the damage that Kaz Hirai and the others are doing far outweigh the one good ad the campaign has done--the 2-minute online video with the rainstorm (even though it's mostly hogwash).

                                The baby thing? Creepy, disinteresting.
