Yeah, but they're still tackled quite differently from fringe-Muslim terrorism. People don't hijack planes to fly them into abortion clinics, nor do they operate across national borders AFAIK. Nor are abortion-clinic terrorists the real concern. That stuff's been going on for years, and will probably continue to go on for years just because it doesn't bother people the way 9/11 did. We voice our outrage when the cases come up in the news, but terrorism that targets only abortion clinics, clients and personnel isn't quite the same as random indiscriminate attacks on landmarks and large gatherings of people.

For all we know, school shootings might be terrorism. They certainly grab our attention, and I know that at least at my high school would have been easy to pull off. And they hit us where we are most scarable. The boundary I think is whether the shooters are or thought of themselves as part of a movement.

As for pro-life terrorism, and the government response to it, I remember reading that the FBI spends more money investigating pornography, which is legal, than it does investigating pro-life terrorism.

However, Elok is right and all of this is a tangent. As far as al Qaeda is concerned, they no longer need to attack us in the US because we did exactly what they wanted us to. They assuredly wanted us to react by invading one or more Muslim countries, and in doing so, our actions unified what was before 9/11 a very fractured Muslim extremist fringe. They're fighting us in Iraq because that's actually where their interests lie.

Apparently, the Baker plan is going to recommend phased withdrawl which is exactly what Kerry supported in 2004 and which Bush claimed was "cutting and running". It seems the new plan will just be for the Republicans to accept what the Democrats have been saying all along was the correct course.

Slowwy is probably thinking of the USS Cole, even though the Navy's official investigation of that attack showed there wasn't much anyone could have done to prevent it, being that it was a busy, foreign open port in a potentially hostile part of the world (but that didn't stop a congress person - I forget who - from blaming the ship's commanding officer and holding up his promotion, effectively scuttling his career).
