    Is there money in it - career advices

    So.. it seems that there might be other opportunities as well in the near future.

    Here's what I've thought of doing. Graduate -> continue with the company -> get management position -> establish my own business.

    Now, there seems to be more opportunities..

    Graduate -> establish my own business.

    Graduate -> go for PhD -> DO the whole research career thing.

    Basically, I'm looking for ways to.. If I choose to do the PhD, it'll basically give me.. 3-4 years more. That's fine, but what about working life? I coudl always stay with the Uni, do research and be poor forever. Well, relatively poor, hardly middle class income.

    But I am intriqued by the possibility of doing researches, I'm quite fond of my field. So if I choose to go with the PhD, where's the money at? What kind of career opportunities you guys think there is? I'm in information security field (background software engineering).

    At that point, I think the whole business thing would be over as in owning your onw business anytime soon. SO if I choose to go with the reasearcher thing for some years, what kind of things would it do for me? I know what they'd do for me here in Finland - absolutely nothing more.

      Any career path in the health sector will continue to grow. I'd vote pharmacist.

                Anyway, going with pharmacist thing wouldn't work here, again, that's a field that pays crappy for you in here. Like if you want to get out of the < 30k a year, you need to.. get out of every single ordinary job, even most that requires relatively high education. The average salary here in general swims around 2k a month.

                  You can make six figures by the time you're 25 working with databases in the financial sector.

                    I was said I was interested in DBs but I have to admit, I've lost my interest in terms of career. But database related work, yes. Not admnisitrating or financial sector though.

                        Yes exactly, that was the plan.

                          To me, PhD degrees are more about personal pride and academic commitment. If it won't help you in business, what's the point?

                            Wow. Unfortunately anything to do with finance brings me out in a rash. I only like databases with as little accounts stuff in them as possible.
