I didn't say they did. I mentioned computer, TV and activities that require deep thought separately.

This is some pretty basic, and rather self-evident advice, by the way. There's hardly anything controversial about it.

You might be suffering from difficulties breathing during sleep.

I heard this could account for feeling very tired and waking up often during sleep.

You could also maybe have mononucleosis

Yeah, lying on your side will help your breathing..

              1) What's your caffine intake like, and has it changed significantly lately?

A cup or two of tea every day.

              2) When you wake up in teh middle of teh night and can't fall back to sleep, do you find you're thinking about anything in particular?

I think about how little sleep I'm getting and stress that I won't be able to function the next day.

              3) What do you do for the hour or so before going to bed?

              Read, rest, etc

              4) How much outdoor activity and/or exercise do you get in a day?

I try to exercise once every day for about an hour, but I don't always get the opporitunity. Outside of this, very little (other than what one would usually encounter during the day)

i commented earlier about how having stuff to think about requires sorting the stuff, not sorting the sleep.

                more exercise may also help.

but it sounds like you need to find healthy ways of coping with anxiety; do that, and the sleep will work itself out.

jog during the day so that you are tired at night.

I was told to lay off the booze (beer) cause that is what they say wakes me up out of a dead sleep. Course i was an insomniac before i was an acoholic and i dont see a difference in waking up patterns

It sounds just like the problems my mom had. She always slept to little, woke up in the night etc.. Just like you did. She got some pills, not sleeping pills but pills that helped her relax before she went to bed and now it is much better. She had exactly the same symptons as you had. Can´t remember the name of the medicine though :\
