I learned about the Bad Blue Boys during the two legs of Arsenal v Dinamo. Didn't the former Pres insist they change their name to Croatia Zagreb, and the club changed it back as soon as he died?

I have memories of Chelsea fans as a kid in the early eighties. I was watching Shrewsbury Town vs Chelsea when Chelsea were in the lower divisions, and about a hundred Chelsea skinheads in the Shrewsbury section started plying their trade. I had to climb up the wall at the back of the terracing to escape, and I thought I was dead when someone started pulling at my leg. Luckily, it was just another kid wanting a hand up to safety.

Yeah. I'm surprised that you're so well informed. BBB were even the strongest opposition to the president for a time (the only one with some balls anyway).

Thatcher killed all the fun in going to football games

East Europeans are going through the hooligan phase now. Croatian groups are cooling down, couple of years back it was the peak with lots of domestic and abroad violence. I hear that the Poles are pretty rough nowadays, but I'm not sure. I don't follow the "scene" closely.

BTW. I've read something that there was a small brawl here between English fans and some locals. Nothing serious though.

You Euros sure are wierd. Stuff like that would get you thrown out of the stadium in any civilized country.

Doesn't Croatia have a rather sordid history of alliance with the Nazis?

My knowledge is rather limited, so apologies if I get this terribly wrong...

We had an unelected quisling regime in WWII.

The events at stadiums have nothing to do with that, I think. You'd find more neonazis in USA or Russia than in Croatia, they don't figure prominently among football fans or hooligans. These want to provoke. Racism, roman salutes, all goes.

                              Man, this is rich...

Translated from a Croatian news site:

"On the main Zagreb square the police have formed a line to separate couple of hundred of supporters of Hajduk Split who have come to Zagreb to support the national team from the fans of Dinamo Zagreb who have surrounded them. Meanwhile, a couple of streets away, English fans wave their flags and sing provocative songs while drinking copious amounts of beer"

Strange - domestic rivalries are usually set aside for internationals. They must be trying to impress their guests!
