  • Can not read CDrom, please help

    Hi guys,

I am having a bit of a problem reading a cdrom of mine, I'll do my best to explain the problem I am experiencing.

While I was on holiday I made lots of pictures with my digital camera, the first 300 of which I burned to a CD recordable I named 'NZ I'. I had left the cdrom open so I could add more stuff to it and after a few weeks I burned some more pictures to the same CD. Unfortunately the second program I was burning with changed the name of the CD from 'NZ I' to 'My Disc' and now I can only access the pictures that I burned the second time. Does anyone know how I can access the other pictures?

    Thanks in advance,

    Stephan

it may have overwritten the data. if the pictures were ever on the harddrive try getting a file restore utility, it is a long shot but occasionally it works.

I don't think you can overwrite data on CD-Rs. More likely the updated file table is ignoring the earlier session.

Don't know how to fix it though

I burned the pictures in an Internet cafe so they went directly from my camera to the CD itself :-(. I forgot to mention earlier that when I look at the properties of the cdrom it says that it has a disc size of 300MB while it is a 700MB cdrom, so I am sure that the older pictures are still there somewhere..:-S.

If it was a CD-R he couldn't write to it twice and thats his problem.

You can write to CD-Rs twice, or several times. Just not in the same physical location on the CD.

meh, every time i've burned I've had to have all the data ready the first time.

You need to make sure your burning software (and CD-R) supports "multisession."

Lord Shiva is right on this one, you can write multiple sessions to the same CD-R which is exactly what I did. Problem is I've never had it happen to me before that it changed the name of the disc :S. As I said the data is there, I just need a way to access it.

This product might be able to recover your pictures. They have a free trial copy. I doubt that the free copy will actually do anything, but it doesn't hurt to try. Is it worth $40 (the purchase price) to get your pictures back? You also could Google "cd-rom data recovery" to find similar products.

.Thanks Petek, that is exactly what I was looking for . Now I'll just have to decide whether it's worth the 40$ .

http://www.isobuster.com/ does it for slightly cheaper... and there probably is a way to do that for free, we just haven't found it so far.

Yeah, I have been searching myself as well. The cheapest I found so far is 19,95, so that's doable. I'll wait for a while though to see if anyone else comes up with a different idea .
