    Records That Can't Be Broken or Will Be Difficult To Break

    Doesn't have to be sports, but my examples will be from the National Football League.

    Longest Run From NFL Scrimmage
    Tony Dorsett (b. April 7, 1954) scored on a touchdown run of 90.5 m (99 yd) for the Dallas Cowboys v. the Minnesota Vikings on January 3, 1983.
    Unlikely to be broken.

    Most Seasons Played, 26, George Blanda (1949-58, 1960-75)

    Most Seasons With One Club, 20, Jackie Slater (1976-1995), Darrell Green (1983-2002)
    MIGHT be broken, but it won't be easy.

    Most Yards Gained, Career, 18,355, Emmitt Smith

    Joe D's 56 game hitting streak. Nigh-impossible.

    Cal Ripken's games played streak. Highly unlikely.

    Single Season wins by a pitcher.
    All time: 59 by "Old Hoss" Radbourn in 1884.
    "Modern Era" 41 by Jack Chesbro in 1904.

    Unbreakable without a sea change in the way baseball is played. Pitchers nowadays make a maximum of 33 starts per season.

        Sounds amazing, but that was rather recently done. Why unbreakable?

          Not unbreakable - the thread title includes records 'that will be difficult to break'. The last time a top-tier side went the entire season unbeaten was Preston North End way back in 1898-99, and they only played a couple of dozen matches in the season at most.

          Arsenal won the 38 match Premier League title 03-04 unbeaten, plus a few matches at the end and start of the seasons either side.

                Because of the large fuel consumption of its rocket engine, the X-15 was air launched from a B-52 aircraft at about 45,000 ft and speeds upward of 500 mph. The airplane first set speed records in the Mach 4-6 range with Mach 4.43 on March 7, 1961; Mach 5.27 on June 23, 1961; Mach 6.04 on November 9, 1961; and Mach 6.7 on October 3, 1967. It also set an altitude record of 354,200 feet (67 miles) on August 22, 1963, and provided an enormous wealth of data on hypersonic air flow, aerodynamic heating, control and stability at hypersonic speeds, reaction controls for flight above the atmosphere, piloting techniques for reentry, human factors, and flight instrumentation. The highly successful program contributed to the development of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo piloted spaceflight programs as well as the Space Shuttle program. The program's final flight was performed on October 24, 1968.

                  Mike the Headless Chicken living for 18 months after his head was cut off.

                  The skeptical scientists were eager to answer all the questions regarding Mike's amazing ability to survive with no head. It was determined that ax blade had missed the jugular vein and a clot had prevented Mike from bleeding to death. Although most of his head was in a jar, most of his brain stem and one ear was left on his body. Since most of a chicken's reflex actions are controlled by the brain stem Mike was able to remain quite healthy

                  In the 18 MONTHS that Mike lived as "The Headless Wonder Chicken" he grew from a mere 2 1/2 lbs. to nearly 8 lbs. In a Gayle Meyer interview Olsen said Mike was a "robust chicken - a fine specimen of a chicken except for not having a head."

                        I think a lot of MLB career pitching records will not be broken after the last of the current old men retire.

                        With the constant pampering of pitchers, most of the old records will stand forever.
                        I still like the Nolan Ryan (is it nuprin) commercial.
                        After a start he'd take a single yellow pill and everything would be OK.
                        It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

                            Cy Young's win total of 511 will never be broken.
