It was on Keith Olbermann, for what that's worth to you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The Taliban in Afghanistan, they have offered that they are ready to hand over Osama bin Laden to Saudi Arabia if the United States drops its sanctions, and the—they have a kind of deal that they want to make with the United States. Do you have any comments (INAUDIBLE)?

ARI FLEISCHER, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: Let me take that and get back to you on that.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Not a whole hell of a lot.

Rohrabacher, a major supporter of the Afghan resistance during the Soviet invasion, says, contrary to popular opinion, the U.S. did not support bin Laden and his allies during the war.
Bin Laden was a big fundraiser for the Afghan resistance, I have little doubt he was getting money from us thru a variety of avenues. But this guy knows better than me and he's more honest than most in Congress.

I am unclear why the Taliban would so soundl deny to turn him over to the US in the wake of 9/11 if this is the case. Why would they let them be thrown from power over this if they had already agreed to it?

          Something doesn't seem right here.

It also seems that Clinton would be screaming about him negotiating bin Ladens capture and Bush letting it slip away if this was the case.

          Just doesn't make sense
Actually I'm having my doubts about the story too, enough people knew about the deal so it would have leaked long before now. Clarke served into the Bush adm and he should have known about this. According to the article it was the State Dept making the deal, maybe they made a deal Bush et al decided wasn't what they wanted now that we had an excuse to invade Iraq.

Why don't you blame Reagan, Berz?
I do, but before him I blame Carter. We provoked a Russian invasion of Afghanistan under Carter and started arming the resistance and Reagan continued the policy. We recruited alot of those people fighting the Russians from other Muslim countries as well. Then we left Afghanistan and looked the other way as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia empowered the Taliban to take over while we camped out in Saudi Arabia. Kinda dumb, we fell victim to our own successful policy against the Russians.

If anyone puts this all on Bush, they're...well, incorrect, and I'll leave it at that.
All on Bush? How about what he deserves? Today's situation is the result of a quarter century of ME foreign policy. It was about 25 years between our post WW II support for the Shah in Iran and the Iranian revolution, another 25 for our support of Afghans/Muslims to come back and bite us in the ass...

Not a whole hell of a lot.
I saw the clip, it is evidence the Taliban were trying to make a deal.

Of course it did take a few years before the Gulf of Tonkin was exposed and alot of people knew about that.
