Venezuala and Syria have reasons and objectives for making their comments.

What did Rice (or the US) hope to gain?

Given recent events in their election, I'd say she was kind.

Like I say, the validity of her remarks is irrelevant.

It will be seen by many as meddling and I don't see the 'up side'.

I think her remark was tactless and rude. She clearly implied that Mexican democracy was immature prior to now, and regardless of the truth of that statement it is tactless to say.

There's a reason it's called "being diplomatic". Sadly Rice hasn't really learned what that means yet.

We can't do a hell of a lot about any of that.

God forbid we make any statement on Mexican attempts at democracy.
There are ultimately negative consequences to such behavior. Why imitate those countries [Venezuala, Syria, France]?

You think we should emulate those countries?

Does this mean we should tell them to STFU when the Mexican Government "interfers" in internal American affairs?

Are the power dynamics the same? You are clever enough to see the difference.

If Pakistan were to tell the US to help us with 'X' else be bombed back into the stone age - would you help?

Except we're not talking about enforcing desires on anyone here.

This is exactly what pisses me off. Anyone can say or do whatever the Hell they want, as long as they're not from the USA. Then, anything is wrong.
                              Well, kiss my ass.
