Firewalls

Which sort of firewall do you use? I use Zonealarm (free), but I've been reading that it isn't of best quality.

I think Zone Alarm is fine. I use Sygate Pro, but never had a problem really with Zone Alarm, and it's reviewed well at places like download.com
Tiny Personal Firewall is rated highly too, but to me it was a huge pain in the ass.

If MS wanted to hack my computer all they'd have to do was put something in a Windows update, since I install those. Windows Firewall tells me when one of my applications is trying to access the Internet, and lets me allow or block it. I don't really need any more.

Really, most copies of Windows are set to the default of download and install Critical Windows Updates. If they wanted to do something, they very easily could. It seems silly to mistrust Windows Firewall for that reason.

Because I don't want to.
It isn't so much that I think Microsoft will spy on me, but rather I don't have confidence in their ability to write a good firewall.
