I always hear people bad mouth 80's music. And another thread mentioned 90's music, so I figured I'd pose this question. A lot of people say 70's music is crap too. But I think they are only referring to pop music. Rock music was very strong in that decade. I think you'll find every decade had it's bad share of pop music. Even the 60's. The beatles are an example of bad pop music. I'm only kidding. Don't flame me.
I suppose this poll would depend on what type of music you primarily listen to (pop, rock, country, r&b, etc). But most normal people don't listen to country. And not to sound racist, but I don't think we have a strong r&b base here. Though I'm sure many of you like hip hop, but that's more recent. I think to be fair, I think we should include all music on average. As many rock songs were also popular music. Especially in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It was only recently rock music hasn't been played on pop music stations. The same goes for r&b, as they get plenty of airplay on pop stations. Country on the other hand is isolated. No one in their right mind would listen to it.

I think the poll results will be biased to what decade the person grew up in. I like 80's music because I grew up in the 80's. So these songs were a part of my life in my preteen and teenage years. I listened to pop music up until about 1985 or so, then I started listening to more rock, and eventually all heavy metal music. Yes the synthisizers and drum machines were overdone. No doubt about it. But there are some damn good, catchy songs. Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, they were pretty good. I also liked it because there were a lot more English influence in the music. Once everything went to r&b, dance, hip/hop, rap- European and English bands/artists disappeared from the pop stations. With notable exceptions like the spice girls. But I'd rather not think of them. It just seemed like 80's music was more diverse. As for metal, I believe the best metal came out in the 80's as well. In fact, I'm certain of this.
The 60's of course was a great decade. The origins of rock and heavy metal came about. Some amazing artists in the second half of that decade.
The 70's had disco, which is all everyone seems to remember. But there were so many great rock artists that have to be mentioned. Led Zeppelin first and foremost. But you can't forget Black Sabbath, Ac/DC. Skynrd, the Eagles, and many others.
The 90's. Which I mentioned in the other thread. I liked it at the time, but there is no staying power. Most of those songs were forgetable. Though I may be biased, as I mostly listened to rock stations. But I don't remember much notable pop, dance music from that era. The macarena I suppose.
. I liked shaggy as well. Alternative/grunge. What can I say. I like Nirvana and Alice and Chains. soundgarden was good as well. Other than those big guys, I don't have much else on my hard drive. A couple of candlebox songs, couple of live songs. Smashing Pumpkins was good as well. Big metal bands like Metallica began to suck in this decade. Slayer and Anthrax took a dive as well. Megadeth wasn't as good either. I did forget to mention Rage against the machine. But they only released 2 decent albums.
And finally this decase. Whatever the **** it's called. So far it's been pretty forgetable. Perhaps I'm getting too old to apprecite modern music. Creed (more 90's imho). Slipknot (you'd think they'd sound better with that many members in the band). Lamb of God? meh. System of a Down is the main one I like.
