As for what is or is not a moderate Muslim? Muslims who aint trying to kill us are moderate, thats about a billion people I guess.

Um, ok, some of the stuff in the OP is pretty extreme, but I don't see why you bolded this. I mean, most religions claim that they're right, so other religions must be wrong; tolerance means living with them in peace, not saying that their religion is just as right as yours.

IMHO the muslim mainstream in western countries is much more liberal than the mainstream in (or near) islamist countries.
(and the mainstream in fundamentalist countries often tends to be much nearer to muslim fundamentalists than to the muslim mainstream in european countries)

I also disagree with this. It might even be the other way round. Seeing as modern extremists are mostly westerners, I suspect that western identity politics is driving much contemporary radicalism.

Whilst headscarves are prevalent, I would question the implication. For every headscarf wearing muslim woman you saw you may have seen a hundred who are not wearing one and you have not realised they were muslim.

I'm pretty sure this may have been the case. When I last visited Britain in the late 90s, I went to visit family of mine. My aunt nor either of my two female cousins wore any headscarf of any kind.
