    Considering the Xbox 360 is, quite literally, a bit over 10 times the power of the Wii, a $50 price gap makes me giggle.
    i thought the design intention of the Wii wasn't raw power, but genuinely clever games?

      Indeed it was the opposite. Make something really cheap (read no raw power) that is easy to get into and is a ton of fun to play.

      $250 isn't really cheap.
      I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        meh. if it takes more than a month for me to save for it, it's expensive. i can swing $250, though it cuts into my beer money.

          At $250, I will wait and see how fun it is.

            No raw data about the processor power and thevid card power?

            Asher or anyone, do you know the data?

            p.s.: Secure Digital slot is a big winner, along with the possibility for using the GameCube controllers!

            Technical specifications

            Nintendo has, at present, released very little technical specifics regarding the Wii console. The known details include:[1]

            Processor:

            * One SD memory card slot
            * Two USB 2.0 ports
            * One Sensor Bar port
            * Four Nintendo GameCube controller ports
            * Two Nintendo GameCube memory card ports
            * Compatible with optional USB 2.0 to Ethernet LAN adaptor

            Storage:

            * 512 MB built-in flash memory
            * Expansion available via SD card memory and USB mass storage[10]
            * Slot-loading disc drive compatible with:
            o DVD (4.7 GB Single layer or 8.5 GB Dual Layer)
            o 8 cm GameCube optical disc
            * Mask ROM by Macronix[29]

            Built-in content ratings systems:

            * PEGI, ESRB

            Video:

            * Up to 480p and will work with a computer monitor as well as any TV or projector[30]
            * Component (including Progressive scan), S-Video, or composite output
            * 16:9 widescreen support

              Back when I was at IBM (a year ago) the targetted clock speed for the CPU was 1 GHz. I'm not sure if that's still true today, but since they're not talking about it that's telling.

                though, if i had $250 to just piss away, i'd prolly buy one of these:

                  Self biased, what is that and why is it so expensive?

                    At $250 it's worth it IMO, with the Virtual Console. Yes, there's emulation, but I'd much rather play on a console, on a TV, with a controller, than on my notebook.

                      Such geekery does not belong in this thread, SB!

                      Anyway, let me use my almost-mystical powers of deduction to work out the UK price... working!... working!... and the Wii will be released in Britain for... £250. God bless the 1:1 exchange rate that video game companies use.

                        Asher, you mentioned before (in another thread) that the Gamecube was a "failure." While I don't know the sales figures, there are 5 gamecubes on my floor of my dorm to 1 xbox and 2 ps2's, and everyone plays SSBM. We don't have any 360's. I expect we will have a few Revolution's come next semester, though.

                          SSBM???

                          Looks like Super Sado Bondage Maso?

                          What is it?

                            Nintendo's marketshare has steadily fallen over the past two generations.

                            In that respect, it is a failure.

                            It does turn a profit, though that profit is getting smaller -- especially on the home console front.

                            It really doesn't matter if your dorm has lots of Gamecubes. Everyone out here has Xboxes and PS2s.

                            But then again, you are a lot younger and may enjoy the colorful Mario Sunshine games more than we do.
