  • Chavez affirms that he is a dictator.

No surprises to anyone who hs been intellectually honest here. Chavez has announced that he intend to yet again rewrite the Venezualan constitution to extend his stay in office and to give himself more power. WOW, WHO COULD EVER HAVE GUESSED? Nope, no one called this one.

Chavez now says he wants to stay in office at least until 2030 and he wants to yet again redraw electorial districts in order to give his party yet more seats; any honest person would call that still more gerrymandering from the man who created the most gerrymandered state in the western hemisphere. I honestly can't see why anyone would be stupid enough to support a man who is obviously a dictator at heart.

I didn't know it was Chavez that helped the Democrats build the districts so that men like Delay got elected, but go CIA!

as long as the (presidential) elections are fair, and he keeps getting voted, no major problem

Altough one of the few things I like about USA elections, is that the president can only stay for 8 years, I dont like
people who want to stay forever

On a serious note: Oerdin does bring up a valid point...

If Chavez gets what he wants, whose fault is it?

It looks to me, that Chavez knows how to play the Venezualan game.

Is he a dictator? On the surface it looks that way; but if he has the popular vote of the people and the people wish for him to remain in office...the populace have spoken (ie, they want a dictator).

I feel it is a choice that Venezualans need to make for themselves...whatever the outcome.

Now if there is "proof" of election/vote "rigging" - that opens up an entirely different can of worms...

So Chavez has "affirmed" that he is a dictator?

Right. By the same standard, you have "affirmed" that you are an idiot.

Techumseh, you take the thread titles too literally.
(titles are worded in such a way as to fuel discussion, that is all - but I think you already know this. )

No, I for one do not see where Chavez has "confirmed" anything. But to the outside world looking in, it would "seem" that Chavez is taking on "dictator-like" actions. Of course, like I stated earlier, it is for the Venezualan populace to decide...

First you don't even provide a source for his speech. Second, has he been misquoted again? last time this was in the news, he was talking about cancelling the presidential terms limit, not rewriting a constitution that would make him president for life.
