Not true - UK graduates going to the US get paid the same as US graduates. Similarly US graduates coming to the UK get paid the same as UK ones. The degrees aren't worth any different, just the US has a higher average wage. It's not that much higher either.

I've just gone through two weeks of college . Our college starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 5:30 PM - a nine-hour workday . There is a great academic workload .

I'm happy with what I've seen so far .

Some classes (archaeology) were good, but most of em were useless or boring. I hardly remember anything I've learned in the past 4 years; partly because I have a terrible memory

And most subjects were ridiculously easy and small. The reason why at least some of them were hard was that the textbooks (if any) or classes were chaotic, vague or had bad explanations written in them.
I mean: all year long I would go out and drink, or things like that, without ever studying till exams were coming along. I don't think my friends studying engineering could be able to have managed that ^^
So basically I never needed or learned how to really work on something, so I'm sort of screwed with my thesis

Still, some interesting courses made up for that crap, a bit anyway...

Thanks to Traianvs for being honest. Is he the only one telling the truth? Are the rest of us deluded because of a sense of nostalgia for the good old days? Or are we purposely thinking better of our alma maters in order to boost their reputations, and in turn, our prospects?

Or is there possibly a self-selection going on in the people answering the question?

I'm applying to colleges this year. This is my little MS paint map of places I'm applying to. They're color coded by selectivity, with red being the most selective, followed by purple, blue, and green. Yale or Stanford will be the first choice. This is a typical set of applications for an East Coast private school kid. In general, these schools are very expensive, and one might argue that these schools are overpriced. I wouldn't necessarily disagree, but they're very good. (Rice is the exception. Rice has an incredibly low tuition.)

                    But it's in Texas.

Jeez, that's a lot of schools to apply to. I applied to 3, and withdrew 2 of those applications.

Well, CMU was your first choice and you easily had the credentials. You pretty much knew you were getting in. Whereas my first choice is Yale/Stanford (will be decided shortly) and anyone who "knows" he's getting into Yale or Stanford is an arrogant *******.

Except for one of my best friends in HS, who won the international science fair, got like 3rd at Intel, got 20k from DHS for the facial recognition algorithm he developed and has several times been asked to give presentations at computer science conferences. But yeah, in general that's true.

(And he was so modest that he didn't even count on Stanford.)

Hey, my retarded half-mole cousin went to Yale. It's a good institution for those in somewhat less-refined circles.

                            Columbia FTW.

                              Some words of advice...

Nobody cares about whatever you did in high school after your first semester at any college.

If you don't get into whatever college you wanted, don't sweat it. Plan instead to attend your first choice college for grad school. Masters programs are MUCH easier to get into, they're cheaper, and nobody cares about anything except the LAST school you ever attend.

Except for the aforementioned crazysmartkid, who has standing job offers at DHS, the NSA, etc.
