He was the driving force behind creating one of the greatest zoos in Australia. A zoo which now helps bring money to help endangered species in Australia and which helps injured animals recover. Yes, he made money off of TV shows but he also brought a whole lot of people more information about the natural world and got them off of their behinds and involved. That's worth something.

From some of the postings here, it sounds like the way in which he led his life was a bit of a zoo.

Zoos aren't all they're cracked up to be, by the way. Maybe to the people who visit them they are, but I sincerely doubt the animals on display enjoy it too much.

              Wernazuma III:

G'wan. Tell us what you really think about Steve Irwin.

Dude, if you had jumped in a swamp in the middle of the night to capture a croc with only your wife/gf's help, I would put more stock in what you said.

Remains the question how much sense Wernazuma's post made in this environment.

                          • Winston and Werna, you are both being ignorant. PLEASE do some reasonable research on Irwin before speaking your opinion.

Anyway, RIP Steve Irwin, he contributed very well and entertained and taught.

So many will say he was off his rocker, but that's what happens when you are as passionate as he was about something. Passionate people lead the way. Steve was a leader. I agree with Michael, he was very knowledgable about nature, it was as if there was nothing he didn't know about our planet.

                            • I think he was a great naturalist.

My only "beef" was that the constant handling of dangerous animals may have influenced some children (or adults) to try the same thing - kinda like those stupid shows on MTV about the morons doing dangerous stunts.

They had the cameraman or producer (or somebody who was right there on TV yesterday but I cant remember which or when. We do know they were filming at the time though and that the film has gone to the cops. Strangely enough, pulling out the barb may have been what ultimately led to his demise (though pulling out the barb would've seemed natural/reasonable to Irwin at that instant).
