A dead president riveted Toronto's attention again yesterday. The controversial British film Death Of A President, which has riled up the U.S. right because it fictionalizes the assassination of George W. Bush, won a key critics prize at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The mock documentary by English filmmaker Gabriel Range took the FIPRESCI Prize, which is meted out by a five-member jury representing the International Federation of Film Critics. One of them is Toronto critic Norman Wilner. None of the five is an American.

Jury president Klaus Eder, a critic from Germany, announced that the film won "for the audacity with which it distorts reality to reveal a larger truth." Eder also revealed that the film, which played in the filmfest as D.O.A.P., also "irritated" all the jury members, but they admired it anyway and chose it unanimously.

Sen. Hillary Clinton this morning blasted the producers of a new film depicting the assassination of Pres. George W. Bush.

"I think it's despicable," Clinton said of "Death of a President," a fictional film that features a staged assassination of the president in 2007. "I think it's absolutely outrageous. That anyone would even attempt to profit on such a horrible scenario makes me sick."

Why? Its not as if Hillary has been doing to much pandering to liberals lately and I don't think that she's too popular with them for things like supporting the Iraq War. My sense is that if liberal Dems didn't have to pay attention to electability they'd all be going to Feingold...

Guilliani can't win because of 9/11. Unexamined, he looks like a fantasic leader, and I thought so as well. Turns out, there are tapes from helicopter pilots that he'd just as soon the world didn't hear and that would come out if he ran.

I've read a very positive review of it from a flim perspective. It's not, excuse the pun, just a hit job. However, because Bush is so loathed, a lot of the audiences aren't getting the point, and instead are cheering when Bush gets whacked.
