Notice how her name is almost never in the headlines UNLESS it's an article or blurb about the possibility of her candidacy. She plays it safe and keeps her head low.
The role she was elected to play was Senator from New York, not "Democrat". She DOES take strong positions on a range of issues, but yes she sometimes works with the admin, as does Ted Kennedy.

I don't think anyone but Republicans ever wanted Hillary to run. I notice DanS has always been a big supporter.

Even Nixon, who really was a fighter, only got elected by doing everything he could to conceal that aspect of his personality.
No one was fooled into thinking Nixon was a genial dope. Im trying to contemplate LBJ as a "genial dope" and am having a hard time doing so. JFK wasnt seen as a dope, even if he was portrayed as more genial than he really was. Clinton, whatever else he was, was hardly ever seen as a dope - though genial, yes.

Ike was not seen as a dope by the millions who served under him and voted for him - the folks who thought of him as a genial dope usually voted for Stevenson.

This is really a poke at Reagan and the Bushes, and I think of limited applicability to them (Reagan was certainly far less genial, and Bush Sr wasnt a dope)

Yeah, and hes got the most insight, right. If he thinks Hillary running is good for the GOP, it must be so, right?

Confining it to the political elites, (IE discounting her strength in the polls) Id say theres plenty of Hillary support in DLC circles. Of course if you dont count us as "loyal Dems" as seems to be the fashion these days, than that wouldnt count.

Look, we're at war, there people who want to kill us. Who cares who Bill slept with, and what Hillary said about it? If the GOP goes with that stuff they will fall flat on their faces. I think at a time like THIS her toughness is more of an asset than in other times.
But again, if, in 2008, people have decided that the whole terror thing is no biggie, that will hurt her.

...not wanting her to run is gutless....
So if you don't like Hillary you're gutless? Typical crapola from Dan.

Yes, Mr. Yes-man Republican, please tell us who the Dems should run for President.

AMEN! Hell, he could run on the "Snakes on a Plane" platform and I'd vote for him!

I could see the campaign posters now....

Don't misquote me. I said that if you don't want Hillary to run and you're a liberal Dem, you're gutless.

hillary Clinton has one thing going for her that no one else has: Bill Clinton.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin

You don't understand how the Republicans have spent years slandering the name of the man who was our best President in modern times. They actually have attempted to diefy Reagan who was an all around under performer.

Bill Clinton was a mediocre president, but you can't take away the fact that he had and still has a good sense of the mood of the electorate. He will help Hillary immensely, especially since all the other Dems have tin ears.

Actually, you're mistaken about their attempts to deify him. They're actually engaged in a long, drawn-out voodoo ritual to bring him back from the dead as a zombie. Given the fact that he was already fairly old when he died, he'll appreciate the wonderful crop of mushy, non-chewy brains Republicans have been cultivating over the past 20 years when he comes back. Then he'll become the best president ever. At least until he's eaten all the mushy Republican brains...
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

I've been toying with the possibility of a Guiliani candidacy. The primaries would be rough for him, but I think he would do well in a general election. A real brawler.

In other election years, I doubt that he would stand a chance. But there may be a small window for him here.
