The 30 minutes walk is a range, not a minimum distance. I barely need to turn a corner to get to 20 bars and restos.

Oh puh-lease, you think I've never been to an impressive site that had me all cuddly and warm inside? They're always great to spend several hours in, but to work in it? To live in it? NO.

        • Colon, the pictures you post will be familiar to any North American who lives in a reasonably prosperous city. There are buildings that look like that in St. John's, for Christ's sake.

And ditto for your 30 minute walk remark.

And you get the bonus of the view on a neo-classicist museum of fine arts on top of that. Should make the fuzzy traditionalist inside of you feel happy.

Pay attention man. We're trolling about traditionalism vs modernism and suburbanism vs urbanism now.

They're a suburb, and therefore in my estimation, by definition inferior to any form of decent urban living. Not to mention the hideous expense of actually living there.

I have an entire mall within 4 blocks of me, and in another direction I have almost all my classes also within 4 blocks.

The main problem with north American cities, building on a grid.

                        • When I'm trying to find my way somewhere, I don't want the streets to be laid out "interestingly".

What if they're not all same sized? What if some of the streets are crooked, mainly due to geographical features, such as... oh... A MOUNTAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY. Interesting enough for you?

Me neither and I like how they are mixed in. Now I live in the Fan area of Richmond. Google that. Lots of bars on corners but in the same neighborhood of houses.

Lots of students and stuff in there. It was not pricey for an apartment. Plus you have some trees but still bars a block away. Plus I had money.
