Bear in mind that it's often men doing the insulting in either case, and calling a guy ugly might imply that you could consider a man handsome. Never underestimate the power of our fear of appearing gay.

I for one decry the partisan objectification of women. All women should be objectified on the sole basis of their looks.

I disagree. I find women also to be the ones doing the insulting when it comes to Coulter. Which is also why I find Ludd's outrage to be a bit confusing. Apparantly even women disagree with him. But then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

In my experience, when it comes to the appearance of a woman, other women are more insulting and/or critical than men. Sure, a man might comment if a woman is attractive or extremely unattractive. But it's usually just a single remark. Women will make a conversation out of it... to the degree where I almost get offended for the other person (almost ). And I'm talking about my own experience... not any kind of analysis of the general population.

Also, men receive just as much criticism about their appearance as women do. It's just that their sexual promiscuity is not the topic of discussion. The focus is on the sexual attractiveness of a woman because that is how most men evaluate a woman's appearance!

If anyone is to be upset at that reality, blame Jesus for creating us this way. Because honestly, most people in the media get treated a certain way in response of how they conduct themselves. That is also the reality. And Ludd, if you think that is unfair, I don't know what to tell you. Learn to deal with it.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Coulter is crazy as a fox. Her sarcasm has Che believing she admits to things she probably seldom even considers. The left is infamous for no sense of humor. She is truly over the top outrageous and very used to getting her own way. She adds what I believe to be an unacceptable level of nastiness to a process that is very broken. However, she has made herself famous on the talk show/political commentary circuit without making one serious point in her career. If ether of the extremes had a sense of humor, she would be regarded as a great comedienne. Alas, she is either supported or hated by almost everyone who knows of her. 21st century American politics -- no one trusts anyone, no one believes anyone who disagrees is acting in good faith, and political debate consists of outrageous accusations and claims about one's opponent.

I said OFTEN, Sava. Not "always." But, tell me, how often do you hear a guy criticize or compliment another guy's physical appearance?
