Right. After posting the link on a Croatian political forum and raising the issue of "how are we going to thank Iceland", it came out that Iceland was actually not the first but the fifth country to recognize Croatia, after:
1. Slovenia (26.6.1991. - mutual recognition day after declaration of independance)
2. Lithuania
(30.7.1991., before it itself became internationally recognized)
3. Ukraine (11.12.1991.)
4. Latvia (14.12.1991.)
5. Iceland (19.12.1991., also Germany which postponed the validity of the recognition till 15.1.1992.)
True, some of these weren't internationally recognized by the time they themselves recognized Croatia, but became such before Iceland declared its recognition.
