The second book was so inferior to the first book that I actually never read any further. It had little if any direct continuity with the first book so I'd think they could be read in any order whatever, unless continuity is introduced in later books.

Really, really bad TV movie. Trilogy is actually pretty good, but another of her works "The Left Hand of Darkness "is the best work of a true master. No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai
"I played it [Civilization] for three months and then realised I hadn't done any work. In the end, I had to delete all the saved files and smash the CD." Iain Banks, author

Read the first 3 first, though there's not that much needed from one to the next ... things refer to each other, but not horribly so (not like reading Feast for Crows before Clash of Kings or something like that).<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Also because she's an infinitely better writer than Jordan.
And AFFC and ACoK were written by George Martin, not Robert Jordan.
In conclusion:
Ursula Le Guin
George Martin
Tehanu
Robert Jordan
