Nepal was a British vassal during the 19th century, and gained its independence in the 1920s I think. Many Indian minor kingdoms were also princely states, but were administered differently I believe.

Sri Lanka was annexed from the Dutch, and was granted Dominion status in 1948, and only became a republic in the 70s.

I think Bhutan had a similiar status as Nepal. Independent but a vassal.
