    Again!

I've accepted a position starting in September in downtown Toronto with a "small" (100-person) software consulting company. Pretty great place to work, it's near the waterfront in the core of downtown Toronto on the top floor of a loft-style highrise.

This leads to several devastating problems, however:
    - I will have to pay provincial sales tax
    - Most people are Leafs fans
    - I will have to buy a Slingbox to leave back home in Calgary so I can still get the Sportsnet West feeds that show most Flames games

    On the plus side:
    + Great salary & benefits
+ Great company (they are, also, "Microsoft whores" being "Gold Partners")
+ Looking at some great apartments in downtown Toronto, lots of things to do
+ Rogers has 32 high definition channels, including some NHL Centre Ice
+ Great room for advancement in the company
    + Variety in tasks performed
+ Lots of opportunities to take "business trips" to New York, Boston, and Seattle
+ Company is full of young people, the oldest employee of the 50 people in Toronto is in his early 30s (and is a co-founder).
+ I'll start my first "real" job with my very own underlings!
+ Close proximity to Waterloo, where the boyfriend is attending university

    Bring it on, muthas!

So when are you guys getting married?

I have 2 euros and 10 cents in my pockets until the end of August and I hate you so much GRRRRRRRR
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

You buy a Slingbox, hook it up to a cable jack and ethernet cable connected to a router...then you can log into it from anywhere on the internet and change the channels, etc. You watch your "local" TV from anywhere that has a 'net connection.

Isn't the fact it's in Toronto a minus?

                It's both.

While it's an overly crowded city, it has a fabulous gay district.

What kind of holiday entitlement do you get in Canada? Is it as lousy as your US counterparts or more comparable to the Europeans?

Holiday entitlement is roughly in between. More than what an American, less than a European. Like a lot of Canadian, err....entitlements That's been my, oh, experience of it anyway.

And Toronto, my dear city and my first time falling in love with a place, is certainly not overcrowded. Then again, I've gotten used to London. The Eaton's Centre on a Saturday, now that's overcrowded but only because half of southern Ontario is there.

Oh, and the city's subway system is a joke.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
