Should the forward pass be disallowed?

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Without the forward pass American Football would be nothing more than modified Rugby,i.e., just a bunch of brutes smashing into each other in the hopes of eeking out a few yards here and there. The option to use the forward pass forces both sides to strategerize. The offence has a wider variety of options with which to attack the defense and expends some degree of effort teasing the defense. The defense is forced to match the uncertainty about what the offence is going to do for each upcoming play by adopting flexible strategies of their own. In fact I contend that one of the alluring features of American Football is the suspense at the onset of each play. In American Football gameplay is parcelled out into a number of relatively short segments. The space between each snap of the ball allows the spectators to anticipate the strategy that each side will use, thus enhancing their vicarious participation."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

Unless they're in a t-formation, in which case everyone knows it's a pass.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Why would you want to make your sport more tedious, by refusing to allow the forward pass?
I mean, I love American football (not as much as association football, but hell), and this would reduce all chances of a team making a heroic comeback by judicious/fortuitous use of Hail Marys, and reduce the entire thing to rugby, as has been mentioned, which in its union form is particularly tedious, and in its league form a little better.
Without forward passes, there would be no need for any kind of back-field defenders whatsoever, and so the attacking team would face an entire team on the line of scrimmage. Any side that managed 10 yards in a single play would be justifiably lauded, and the game would just change into one that meant most attacking line-ups were dominated by sprinters, to the detriment of all other abilities. Now you can claim that running backs are little more than that anyway, but at least they actually have to catch the ball once in position - not just accept a hand-off from a team-mate and then run as far as they can.
This is a stupid idea - throw rocks at the people who came up with it!

Actually most professional QBs complete around 60% of their passes. Dipping much below that is considered pretty bad. In college the rates can be much higher. Most QBs in college strive for 70% or more. Louisville, which has a wide open passing attack offense has had a couple of QBs with about 80% completion percentage. The 60s and 70s had a lot lower completion percentages, but 60% or better is expected now.I never know their names, But i smile just the same

Taking a look at the completion percentages, I am rather surprised. I thought that they were up, but not this much. Mostly you are right, except that only one college QB surpassed a 70% completion rate last year.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter.
