Trolls can never Pwn. Ned used serious argumentation in the OP, and was replied with serious arguments (mostly). Anyone wanting to enter the debate would be better off using arguments rather than claims without ground.

Don't forget that the Bay of Pigs was planned during the Ike administration. Can't really blame Kennedy for being stuck with a half-*ssed plan, even if he gave it the go-ahead not fully knowing how screwed up it was.

I'll bite, just for ****s sake.


1) ended the Korean War with a truce, not a peace treaty;

- Long war, limited US involvement, bloody, Chinese involvement, Russian 3rd party involvement. To quote Odin: "Ike didn't want WW3" - especially in the backwaters of East Asia.

2) failed to help the French at Dien Bien Phu when asked (the help was available in the form of the American fleet that was just offshore at the time);

- Why prop up a failing French colony? See #3.

3) forced the Brits and French to give up the Suez Canal to the UAR, a commie client state;

- The actions of the Brits and French at the Canal were highly suspect and created the first real issue in the UN that could have destroyed the organization. The allies would have come out as being the same old imperialists, not the good guys in the Cold War.

4) failed to provide any assistance to the Huns when they were under assault from commie tanks;

- Nukes, nukes, Soviet client state.

5) lost the space race to the commies on purpose;

- Ermmmmmm, naaaaahhhhhh.

6) shut down McCarthy who was rooting out commies from the State Department;

- To quote Slow, dark part of our history.

7) failed to support (and or replace in time) Batista, who then surrendered Cuba to the commie Castro;

- Yeah, I guess so. Then again Cuba didn't seem so important at the time.

8) allowed U2 flights over the commie heartland, wrecklessly allowing an international crisis to happen when Powers was shot down; and

- Yep, dumb idea, but then again we didn't have spy satellites for intel.

9) failed to sack Nixon, an obvious psycho.

- Nahhhh, Dick Nixon was a peach!
