I actually read that, and theres no reference to an organized ethnic cleansing by a Kosovar authority, equivalent to what the Serbs did. There is ethnic hatred to be sure, and acts of violence, and plenty of people whove left - including many of whove moved to different parts of Kosovo.

Whats relevant here is that Serbia as a state committed ethnic cleansing.

Now the international community, afaict, is not enthused about an independent Kosovo. Still attached to westphalian sovereignty. But reasserting Serbian sov will be difficult, and may well lead to another round of ethnic cleansing.

Difficult to be sure, but not relevant to the cases of Transdinistria or Abkazia, where ethnic cleansing has not taken place.

this is true, he could be using the oil money into a lot of other things (see Venezuela).

Putin is a much better leader for Russia and Russian people than Yeltsin was. Too bad most of the US media leadership seems to still live in the days of the cold war, every single reform is twisted into a "shocking move against democracy".

How can the end of independent media be a good thing? I'd say it is a fairly legit attack on democracy.

And I suppose you can actually claim, with a straight face, that the Kremlin hasn't taken control of virtually every TV and radio station in the country?

Yes. I guess we have to agree to disagree.

There is plenty of independent media in Russia. Though no significant TV stations.

                  What a bullsh!t.

There are thousands of TV and radio stations in this country. It's simply not possible to control them. Besides, censorship is prohibited by our constitution.
